Which one is the best?
Published Wednesday, June 28, 2006 by Robin | E-mail this post

Well, one of my jobs about this internship is to re-design the church website, and one of the most important things is to get the right "bush."
So here is my question for you all, should I use the one on the banner, or the one on the left?
Cheers!
Robin,
I just found your blog & wondered if you might be interested in mine. It contains Bible reading Notes. It's www.christinallthescriptures.blogspot.com
I also have another theological blog - www.theologyofgcberkouwer.blogspot.com This blog contains theological found in my book on G C Berkouwer(originally PhD - published in the 'Rutherford Studies in Contemoporary Theology, i.e. from Rutherford House, Edinburgh).
Thx Brother (and you are also from an evangelical CofS!), It is my pleasure to meeting in this blog.
Your blogs are fascinating and useful indeed!
Keep in touch!
Cheers and God bless,
Robin
Dear Robin,
Thanks for your reply. It's an encouragement to me.
I thought you might be in the C of S when I saw the 'Holyrood Abbey' link. I was a member of Sandyford before going into the ministry.
If you go to Holyrood, you may know Moira Sinclair. She's related to me - her mother and my grandfather were brother & sister!
To answer the question, 'Which one's the best?' - I wouldn't like to influence you too much, since you may have your own thoughts on the matter. I will, however, make two comments:
- The new one looks more like real flames.
- The existing one has the idea of light shining out
from the 'Burning Bush'.
To take the comments on to a more theological level.
- The flame consumes us so that what was there before (the leaves - visible in the existing logo) is no longer seen. In the servant of the Lord's experience, it is 'no longer I but Christ' (Galatians 2:20),
the Spirit of God living in us (1 Corinthians 3:16),
a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17),
'I must decrease, Christ in me must increase'
(John 3:30).
I see these lessons in the absence of the green leaves. Our past has been burned up in the Refiner's fire.
Seeing the flame only also speaks more clearly of the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, a reminder that we must seek to do all things in the power of the Holy Spirit. We are to worship in the Spirit (John 4:24). We are to walk in the Spirit -'the fruit of the Spirit' (Galatians 5:22-23). We are to witness in the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:31).
On the existing logo, there is the light shining out from the bush. We have not been given the Gospel to keep Christ to ourselves. We are to share His love. A second point on the existing logo, the individual flames suggests the idea of each one playing their own part in the work of Christ.
This doesn't answer the question one way or the other. I suppose, in the end of the day, it's your choice!
Thanks for the music - especially 'Immortal, inviisible, God only wise'!. I enjoyed listening to it while I was writing this message. Thanks also for the links. I will be having a look at them later on.
May the Lord bless you & make you a blessing to others.
Charlie
Dear Rev. Cameron, ( I'm so sorry I didn't realized you are a minister.)
Once again, I am so glad to meeting you here, truly by the grace of God indeed!
I know Moira very well because she is the first person who gave me furniture (because the Free Church flat I am renting is an unfurnished flat), and she is indeed a very lovely lady.
About the bushes, my minster and elders have refused to use them, because they are afraid it might make the English people feel uncomfortable. However, I am the one who wants to spread out the Greatest Scottish Presbyterianism in England, haha!
Indeed, I want to thank you for all the theological comments you have made. They are so brilliant! As a matter of fact, I am going to preach on Exodus 3 this coming Lord’s day. I can see that the Lord has made this very good time that we can meet here and I can use this privilege to read your precious comments. Praise the Lord for His loving-kindness! This will be my second time to preach after the one I have done in the Practical Theology class at the FC college ( I have just finished my first year studies), and I am very nervous about it.
You and your messages have become encouragements to me, as you know it is hard to find an evangelical in the CofS! I pray that the Lord will continue to bless you and your ministry for His own glory!
Keep in touch!

Thanks for your encouraging reply. This is just the kind of encouragement I need to keep on placing these expository posts on the blog. You don't need to call me 'Rev Cameron'. Feel free to call me Charlie. Give my best wishes to Moira. May God bless you & make you a blessing as you preach on Exodus 3. The Lord gave His Word to Moses. The Lord gave Moses the boldness he needed to speak His Word. The Lord will be with you. He will empower you. 'God has not given us the spirit of fear. He has given us the Spirit of power, love & a sound mind' (2 Timothy 1:7). How good is our God!
Best Wishes in Christ,
Charlie
Thanks!
